What I do at Caltech

Chaotic Advection in Stokes Flow from Henry Jacobs on Vimeo.

A few nights ago I pulled an all nighter, probably the first since high school (my undergrad study habits we’re pretty cautious). I spent the night writing an intro to chaotic advection in Stokes Flow. That’s just the technical jargon for unpredictable movement in thick tar-like fluid. I think it gives a good feel for the kind of stuff I’ll end up studying for anybody curious to look.

The math can be found in
Aref, H, V V,Meleshko, “A Blinking Rotlet Model for Chaotic Advection”, Phys. Fluids, Vol. 8, No. 12, December 1996
